Chateau du Mung was
originally built in 1301. The chateau is considered to be primarily built,
however, in the 15h century, with the South tower done in the 17th c. and
the 2nd and 3rd floors were added in the 18th century. The chateau has
been restored with new plumbing and electricity. The main living area,
including kitchen, dining room and private apartment have central hot
water/radiator heating. There is also plentiful hot water for 14
bathrooms. Appropriate to the period decoration and fully equipped
kitchen. There is a newly replaced slate roof from 2003 after the storm of
the century. It is in a great location in the Charente Maritime, South of
the Loire & North of Bordeaux. It is 2 3/4 hours by the TGV South West
of Paris, or by car 4 hours on the A10. There is much to see in the
Charente Maritime including Roman ruins and the Atlantic Ocean is only
about 12 miles away with beautiful beaches in Royan and Chatillon Plage.
La Rochelle is only 30 miles with it's history and beautiful harbor. The
outbuildings include a stable, chapel, 2 very large garages, pigeonaire, 3
apartments and various other buildings. The wine cellar is in the chateau
under the elaborate Renaissance stairwell. Some of the outbuildings still
need work. The park has many trees including Sequoias from America many
beautiful chestnut trees and other 200 to 300 year old specimen trees.
Suitable sites for pool and tennis are located in the park. All pertinent
chateau and site plans and a history of previous owners are available. The
chateau is included in a large book of Chateaux on the Charente.
